Recently I was waiting for my wife and decided to check out the recent Map feature on doPlaces to see how it would work for finding nearby Restaurants. Well it did great, faster than anything similar.

Only problem I noticed right away were all the pins were the same (had a number winch how many "places" were indicated by that pin, and was hard to figure out which was a restaurant, could be a gas station or store.

Thanks to one of the nicer free Icon Sets from Fat Cow Web Hosting I was able to assign icons fort each category (and also make a few more as needed - for that I recommend the Pinta Graphic Editor, which was awesome for doing 32x32 pixel icons (with transparency) easily.

Anyway now the Map View, the categories, and Entries without pictures now will now have icons. Certainly jazzes things up.

If you have a listing and don't like the icon I assigned, you could always let me know, I could define a different primary category, or if you have some truly awesome picture of your group, business, or place I could add that and it will override the icon on lists and info pages (not on the map view itself, pictures would be too crowded).
