SONORA SMOKEPOLERS BLACK POWDER GUN CLUB

  Sonora

Description

The first meeting was held November 21, 1972. A group of 14 persons interested in shooting back powder guns met to form a club at the "Dipper Coffee Shop". Election of officers were President Marty Johannes, Vice-President Gilbert Morrison, and Secretary/Treasurer Joe Gavit. Initiation was $5.00 and monthly dues of $1.00.

Since then our membership has increased to about 53 families and continues to grow. Initiation is now $40.00 and yearly dues of $30.00.

The purpose of our club is to preserve the history and lifestyle of the trapper and mountain man, such as making and wearing period correct clothing, throwing a tomahawk and knife, and building a fire with flint and steel.

We have a monthly club shoot and an annual rendezvous in the spring.
